Ohio HB 523 Signed into Law 08 JUN 2016 House Bill 523, effective on September 8, 2016, legalizes medical marijuana in Ohio. The Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program (MMCP) will allow people with certain medical conditions, upon the recommendation of an Ohio-licensed physician certified by the State Medical Board, to purchase and use medical marijuana. HB 523 requires the framework for the MMCP will be in place no later than September 2018. This timeframe allows for a deliberate process to ensure the safety of the public and to promote access to a safe product. Much work will take place over the next two years.
